About Rich Corpening

Mission‑focused IT leadership built on teamwork, discipline, and translating vision into action.

Throughout his career, one principle has remained constant for Rich Corpening: effective teamwork drives successful outcomes. From early years in high school athletics to service in the United States Navy and leadership roles in private-sector IT, Rich has seen that the strongest results come from aligned teams, clear communication, and leaders who are willing to shoulder responsibility alongside their people.

Foundations

Early Foundations in Teamwork

Rich’s commitment to teamwork began on the field. High school athletics taught him that discipline, preparation, and shared goals are non-negotiable for success. Those early experiences shaped his understanding that no individual effort can replace a well-coordinated team, and that leadership means setting the standard while supporting others to perform at their best.

Military Service & Intelligence Background

Rich served as a Cryptologic Technician Operator in the United States Navy, working within the intelligence community on secure, mission-critical operations. This experience instilled discipline, precision, and a deep respect for secure, scalable systems, as well as a clear understanding that every mission depends on trust, preparation, and accountability.

The Navy reinforced Rich’s belief that the most effective organizations operate as unified teams. In that environment, leaders are expected to engage directly, support their people, and adapt quickly to changing variables—principles that continue to guide his approach to modern IT and consulting engagements.

Private Sector IT Leadership

Defense & Enterprise Operations

Transitioning into the private sector, Rich applied his mission-focused mindset to defense contracting and enterprise IT operations. He has built and led service desks, infrastructure teams, and enterprise support functions, always emphasizing collaboration, accountability, and structured execution.

Scalable Team Operations

Rich approaches each initiative—whether modernizing infrastructure, maturing ServiceNow environments, or strengthening cybersecurity posture—as a mission with clearly defined objectives, risks, and success criteria. His focus is on building teams and systems that can scale securely and reliably.

Secure Infrastructure Design

With a background rooted in security principles and guidelines, Rich designs and leads IT environments with security as a foundational requirement, not an afterthought. His experience with classified environments and cleared roles informs a disciplined approach to risk, compliance, and resilience.

MISSION-DRIVEN LEADERSHIP. TEAM-FOCUSED EXECUTION. ENTERPRISE-WIDE COMMUNICATION.

Enterprise-Level Communication Skills

A defining strength of Rich’s leadership style is his ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the enterprise. He translates complex technical concepts into clear, actionable language for executives, while engaging deeply with technical teams to ensure alignment, clarity, and shared understanding. This ability to bridge strategic vision with operational detail enables organizations to move forward cohesively and confidently.

Leadership Philosophy

Rich believes that a strong leader is willing to do the work, support the team, and take responsibility for outcomes. Leadership, in his view, is not about distance from the work but about ownership, example, and accountability.

Drawing from high school sports, military service, and decades in IT operations, Rich’s leadership philosophy centers on mission discipline, clear roles, and unified effort. He views each project as a mission with unique variables, best solved when everyone is aligned, informed, and pulling in the same direction.
